Performance Evaluation of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) over Destination Sequence Distance Vector (DSDV) for Random Waypoint Mobility Model

چکیده
A mobile Ad-hoc network (MANET) is a collection of wireless nodes aimed at information exchange and resource sharing. The Destination Sequence Distance Vector (DSDV) a well-known and widely used protocol for MANETs. This paper presents the comparative performance analysis of TCP and UDP (two transport layer protocols) over DSDV in a Mobile Ad hoc Network. Three performance metrics: throughput, end-to-end delay and packet loss parameters are used to evaluate the performance of TCP and UDP. A number of topology parameters are varied including node density, node speed and pause time. Simulations are performed using ns-2 which show that in general TCP traffic outperforms UDP traffic for DSDV. UDP flows perform better in the case of dense networks with little or no mobility. TCP flows perform better for high mobility scenarios.

A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is collection of intercommunicating mobile hosts forming a spontaneous network without using established network infrastructure. Unlike the cellular or infrastructure networks who have a wired backbone connecting the base-station, the MANETs have neither fixed routers nor fixed locations. Their performance largely depend upon the routing mechanism & nature of mob...

Mobile Adhoc Network is a kind of wireless ad hoc network where nodes are connected wirelessly and the network is self configuring. MANET may work in a standalone manner or may be a part of another network. In this paper we have compared Random Walk Mobility Model and Random Waypoint Mobility Model over two reactive routing protocols Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Adhoc On-Demand Distance Vec...
